Food and agribusiness growth centre, Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), has released the 2022 edition of its Celebrating Australian Food and Agribusiness Innovations book, the seventh in the series.

The latest edition showcases businesses striving towards the billions of dollars of opportunity for the sector, as outlined in FIAL’s Capturing the Prize report, which identified 19 growth opportunities with the potential to grow the industry’s annual value-addition capability from its current $61 billion per annum to $200 billion per annum by 2030.

Each case study is categorised under one of the 19 growth opportunity areas, and shows how innovation and collaboration has resulted in the business unlocking value, leading towards success.

FIAL says from revolutionary packaging creations to edible insects, these stories am to encourage all Australian businesses to continue innovating and find their niche.

Every year, the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) collaborates with FIAL to develop the book, nominating Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design Award (PIDA) winners for consideration.

For the 2022 edition, 11 PIDA winners have been recognised: Blue Harvest, Brookfarm, Edgell, Junee Prime Lamb, Kapiris Bros, Melbourne Coffee, Oasis Spices, Pana Organic, Shultz Organic Dairy, Wellman Packaging and Woolworths.

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.
