The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) will conduct its key functions in Bangkok during Propak Asia, from 12-15 June 2024, marking the first time its major events, which will involve participation of the executive team and Board members, will be held in Thailand’s capital.

Major events include the WPO Board Meeting on June 14 and the WorldStar Award ceremony on June 15, alongside several other significant activities such as the Executive Meeting, Working Group Meetings, and the Corporate Partners Cocktail Party.

WPO president Luciana Pellegrino highlighted the strong partnership with Informa Markets Asia, resulting in international engagement at the show.

“We are looking forward to a very dynamic week, gathering Board members from different regions, who will be involved in multiple activities such as a packaging conference organised by the AIP, a strategic business roundtable, an international cocktail for WPO’s corporate partners, the very special Gala Dinner for the WorldStar Awards, as well as meetings with strategic partners. This wide range of activities allows us to raise the voice for packaging and empower members to act positively in their countries.”

Pellegrino also emphasised that ProPak Asia serves as an innovation hub, addressing supply chain and value chain demands.

“We expect the show to bring together stakeholders, MNC, SME, and MSME to discuss and present sustainable and cost-effective solutions for the food and beverage, agriculture, personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and FMCG industries. And packaging is a key actor in this journey.”

Regarding the sixth annual Global Packaging Forum, WPO vice-president of Sustainability & Save Food, Nerida Kelton, noted, “The WPO is also proud to be once again supporting this Packaging Forum on June 12, with 11 Members presenting from across the globe, including WPO president, Luciana Pellegrino; VP marketing, Soha Atallah; general secretary, Johannes Bergmair; and myself. The Forum is organised by Informa Markets and the AIP, who is a WPO member heavily involved in providing education and training in Asia.”

This edition will feature 40 speakers from 19 countries, discussing sustainability and the circular economy for packaging. It is a one-day event with free registration available on the ProPak Asia website.

Another event at Propak Asia will be the WorldStar Award ceremony. Soha Atallah, WPO vice-president of Marketing and WorldStar coordinator, expressed excitement about the ceremony.

"We are thrilled to be organising the WorldStar Award ceremony for the first time in Bangkok, where we will celebrate the best of the best in packaging innovation from around the globe," Atallah said.

"This year we received 435 entries from 41 countries, and we are excited to honour the 212 WorldStar winners. I am confident that the ceremony will be a magical event.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ProPak Asia and Informa Market teams for hosting our prestigious award ceremony and gala dinner. Special categories and President Award winners will also be announced during our Award Ceremony.”

WPO’s presence at Propak Asia can be found at booth #FY237.
