Packaging machinery and robotic automation company, RMGroup, has appointed Mervyn Cupples as its new sales manager for Australia. The company believes the presence of a local sales team will facilitate cross-territory sales, local installations and provide comprehensive after-sales support for the region.

With over 15 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, Cupples brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He has held various key positions in business development, account management, contracting and account retention, where he had responsibilities for promoting flexible plastic films, SOS bags, cartonboard, WPP bulk bags and industrial paper sacks.

"I was introduced to RMGroup by a customer, whose opinion I hold in high regard," said Cupples. "Their glowing comments about RMGroup's exceptional quality, exceeding expectations, value for money, and outstanding customer service motivated me to become a part of their Australian business venture. The market opportunities for RMGroup in Australia and New Zealand are diverse and exciting, spanning sectors such as animal feed, seeds and grain, nuts and pulses, oil mulch, and aggregates, the possibilities are endless."

Edward Rees, RMGroup’s managing director, added: "We are thrilled to welcome Cupples to the RMGroup family. With his extensive experience in the packaging industry, his market knowledge will be invaluable in promoting our products to relevant industries. I have no doubt that he will make a significant impact in this key role."

RMGroup supplies and manufactures a wide range of manual and automated packaging systems, including robot palletising systems, pallet wrapping and material handling systems, as well as supplying a wide range of bagging solutions, weighing systems, and high-speed form fill and seal packaging lines. Its ongoing partnership with ABB and the addition of the AMR division means that it can offer a fully automated solution for fulfilment, distribution and manufacturing kitting operations.

Select Harvests managing director, David Surveyor, said the company’s $1.5 million net profit after tax (NPAT) for FY24, represents more than a $116 million turnaround from FY23, with an operating cash flow of $21.3 million being a 545.5 per cent increase on FY23.

Maggie Beer Holdings chair, Susan Thomas, told shareholders at this week’s AGM the board acknowledged the company must focus on earnings growth, capitalise on its “incredible” brand equity, and provide “proof points, not promises” to win back investor confidence after a year in which the company lost its CEO, CFO, and reported a $28.2 million loss.

Australian wine has received another international accolade, after a high-performing year for the industry. The 2022 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay secured second place in US-based wine publication Vinous' Top 100 Wines of 2024.
