Beverage manufacturer Frucor Suntory has switched from shrink wrap to cardboard on its multipacks of Pepsi, PepsiMax, MountainDew and 7UP.

The move is one of the company's undertakings to help achieve its sustainability goal of zero waste to landfill by 2030.

Frucor Suntory says the move from shrink wrap to cardboard secondary packaging will prevent 2.7 million pieces of plastic going to landfill each year.

The switch to cardboard makes it easier for consumers to recycle, according to Frucor Suntory head of sustainability, Ben Walkley.

Walkley says there is greater consumer trust in the recyling prcoess for cardboard compared to soft plastics like shrink wrap, which "can be confusing and not always readily available".

The cardboard encased multipacks can also be more efficiently stacked and transported, which in turn will help reduce Frucor Suntory's carbon footprint.
