The Victorian beer brand Furphy will now be available in a can format.

Furphy Refreshing Ale was launched in 2014 and is brewed in Little Creatures Geelong Brewery using only Victorian ingredients sourced from local regions such as Wimmera and Eurobin.

The beer is currently available in bottles and on tap across Victoria, but the product will also be released in cans from late-April.

The company said the demand for cans had been growing, and the Geelong brewery now has the capacity to produce this format.

Furphy pays tribute to the Furphy family of Shepparton, Victoria, who produced water tanks and delivered fresh water supplies to Australian Army personnel during World War I.

Marked with the trademark ‘J. Furphy & Sons’, the tanks became popular gathering points where soldiers exchanged stories, gossip and rumours – much like today’s water cooler conversations.

The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has appointed Mike Guerin as the organisation’s new CEO, at a critical time for the sector. He takes over from Su McCluskey, who has been the interim chief executive since September.
