Major label printing operation QLM Label Makers has a new CEO, with Tom Sullivan appointed to lead the day-to-day running of the multinational business.

He takes the role from former CEO Simon Pugh, who is also group managing director. Pugh will remain as MD, Sullivan's appointment enabling Pugh to focus on a more strategic level at the expanding business.

Sullivan joins with 27 years’ experience in the printing and packaging industry, including key positions with the Detmold Group throughout Asia Pacific. He will be based in Australia, and will run the business both here where it has plants in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, and overseas, where it operates in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

His management and production experience covers a broad range of projects, using technology and innovation to deliver strategic sales and operational growth to the company. This experience of working with talented and passionate professionals will be one of the key drivers for the development of the QLM Group.

Sullivan said: “I am excited to be part of such a progressive and growing company and look forward to the opportunity to work with the team to uphold the company’s values, create a culture of excellence that fosters growth, empowers everyone to thrive and enables us to deliver new technology, products and innovation for our customers evolving needs.”

Simon Pugh said: “Having worked with Tom on the Australian Chamber of Commerce Vietnam Board for the past three years I have first-hand experience partnering with him and working with stakeholders to deliver true functional excellence.

“In addition to investing in the latest technology and solutions, we are also committed to investing in developing the quality of our leadership team. Tom adds a level of excellence that will be key to QLM delivering competitive pricing, cutting edge technology, transparency and on demand lead times to our broad range of leading brands throughout Australia and Asia Pacific.”

The move comes following a period of significant growth for QLM; 18 months ago it acquired label print business Elna Press, which gave it a manufacturing facility in Melbourne, and followed that up with buying Read Labels & Packaging, and Luminar – based in Sydney – to set up QLM Flexibles, as it set out to compete against the big multinational label print groups. It opened its new 3000sqm print facility in Brisbane just three years ago.

Sullivan joins as QLM Label Markers celebrates 50 years in business this year, with Del and Dave Pugh starting the company from their house back in 1973.

In recent years, there has been growing recognition that food and agriculture should be viewed not solely as economic sectors but as pillars of national resilience and security. The combined pressures of geopolitical tensions, natural disasters, tech vulnerabilities, and climate change are driving broader recognition of sovereign risk in food production and supply chains, placing it alongside traditional domains of national defence and security. MEQ CEO, Remo Carbone, writes.

The a2 Milk Company says it’s expecting mid to high single-digit revenue growth in FY25, updating its previous guidance of mid single-digit. EBITDA as a percentage of revenue is expected to be broadly in line with FY24. The company has also introduced a dividend policy.
