Inkdustrial has signed an agreement with Roland DG Australia to become a dealer of Roland DG Printers and Cutters with a particular focus on the UV range of solutions.

This will allow Inkdustrial to bring its knowledge of the technology and support to the market with the Roland DG range of products.

John Bryson, sales manager of Inkdustrial, said, “We are excited to work with Roland DG on their products. The new range of VersaOBJECT UV inkjet printers that Roland DG have is opening up new markets and will allow us to support customers from their first entry into UV printing through to the experienced operators with the new bed sizes and extended colour sets.”

The range of VersaOBJECT printers, in particular the MO-240 and the larger bed size COi series, have bed sizes ranging from 600x400 through to 1690x3025mm bed sizes.

Bryson told PKN that of particular note to the packaging market with these printers is the available ink sets that can include Red and Orange UV LED inks combined with White and Clear.

“The clear ink is suitable for spot UV functionality. The ability with the UV LED inks to print onto a wide range of materials and substrates allows for the prototyping or ultra shorts runs of not only cardstocks but also polypropylene and other new packaging materials. Combine this with the ability to print directly onto objects it allows for a single printer to produce a full range of samples,” he said.

Using the example of locally produced gin, he said printers can print directly to the bottle for a bespoke label solution. “The stoppers or caps could be placed into a jig where the lids of the bottle are branded onto the cap. The jig is then changed out for card stock and the sample carton is printed with spot gloss and then sent to one of our digital cutting tables where it is cut,” he explained.

The Roland DG VersaOBJECT printers are particularly targeted at marketing and design companies looking to produce prototypes for advertising shoots or customer sampling through to full production print houses that want a short run or sampling capability or combine the technology for personalisation of manufactured items.

Food & Drink Business

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.
