Brisbane based cardboard packaging manufacturer Pakko celebrated its fifth birthday this week, marking the milestone by recognising the growth and achievements made by the business to date.

The company, founded by CEO Nina Nguyen, began to trade under her leadership on the 1st November, 2017.

“Our first five years at Pakko has been incredible,”  Nguyen said. “It is a privilege to be part of an industry that provides employment opportunities, innovation and raises the profile of manufacturing in Australia. Our team has grown and learnt so much since day one.”

Nguyen said that the industry and community has shown a lot of support for Pakko.

“The printing and packaging industry has always been kind to me. I’m passionate about packaging and it’s been a pleasure to work with some of the industry’s most recognised names, to collaborate with simply outstanding trade partners and to develop long-standing friendships with many of our clients,” she said.

The past five years have seen considerable investment by the business in printing and converting equipment, including four printers, three gluers, 2 cello, one mounter, two diecutters. The company has also built two mezzanines, two sheds and untertaken one merger.

And in between all of that, Pakko has won six industry awards, including the Telstra Best of Business Awards 2022 for Progressing Australia.

“We look forward to celebrating a successful future and to contributing to the growth of our community and economy,” Nguyen said.

Scientists from Hunan Agricultural University in China have developed a new strain of rice that emits up to 70 per cent less methane, aiming to tackle the 12 per cent of global methane emissions resulting from rice cultivation.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand has undertaken a second round of public consultation on its review of the addition of caffeine to food, closing 15 April, which will specifically target sports foods and consider the risk posed to sensitive sub-populations.

Dairy co-operative, Fonterra, is working towards its sustainability targets through new funding from the company itself, and through separate agreements with Mars and Nestlé, aiming to reduce emissions from its farmers.
