Two companies that won Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) awards from the 2022 round have now been shortlisted as finalists for three special WorldStar 2023 Packaging Awards, to be presented on 6 May at Interpack.
Caps & Closures is a finalist in two separate special award categories for two different products: the new Accessible Packaging design special award for the EzyGrip, and the Save Food Packaging special award for the ThermoShield Temperature Monitoring System – Food.
PKN spoke to Caps & Closures MD Brendon Holmes recently in a podcast session captured live at the AIP conference. Holmes said, "It is the AIP, WPO and PKN, along with our customers, who inspire us to work towards these goals. PIDA awards are the perfect platform to drive innovation, recognising those who are truly committed to driving change through innovative designs for the benefit of our environment, reducing food waste and improving the consumer experience in accessibility.
"At the heart of our business is a creative and innovative mindset to explore new horizons and believe in better."
BioPak, another regular PIDA winner, is a finalist in the coveted WorldStar Sustainable Packaging Design special award for the Sugarcane Pulp Hot & Cold Cup Lids.
The winners of the special awards will be announced on the 6 May at the 2023 WorldStar Packaging Awards ceremony, which will be held at Interpack, Dusseldorf, Germany. There will be a large delegation of Australian and New Zealand companies heading to the WorldStar Packaging Awards ceremony as 19 will be receiving general awards on the night. (PKN will be in attendance and reporting on the proceedings.)
The annual PIDA awards programme, now in its 9th year, is run by the Australian Institute of Packaging and is the exclusive feeder programme for the ANZ region for the WorldStar Awards. The PIDA 2023 awards were announced on 28 March at a gala banquet in Melbourne. All PIDA winners are eligible to enter the next round of WorldStar Packaging Awards, so 2023 winners can enter for the 2024 round of WorldStars.
