Cadbury has partnered with Aboriginal artist Michelle Kerrin to design a limited-edition Cadbury Roses gift box, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Titled Meye, Kerrin’s artwork celebrates the birthmothers, stepmothers, aunts, grandmothers, sisters and other maternal figures in family units and communities.

The limited-edition pack articulates Kerrin’s vision of the traditional rose, the birthing caves that represent the long line of motherhood, and the togetherness of community.

“We are born into a Matriarch of strong women. We are raised by our mothers, our birth mothers, aunts, grandmothers, sisters and all women from our communities,” Kerrin says.

“The Matriarch is powerful, bold and warm. It gives us life and enables our existence. Mum, mother, ma, Meye – we must always give back to our mothers. We must always return this love.”

Meagan Denison, Cadbury Roses assistant brand manager, says it has been a privilege to work with such a renowned Aboriginal artist to articulate her vision for Mother’s Day.

“We recognise that Mother’s Day means different things to different people, similarly to how Australian’s feel about Cadbury Roses,” Denison continues.

“We are thrilled to be able to utilise our traditional Roses box to share Michelle’s inspiring story.”

Cadbury Roses has also donated $50,000 to the Stars Foundation, which supports and inspires young Aboriginal girls to reach their full potential.

By providing full-time in-school mentors, the foundation has had a significant impact – 98 per cent of girls in the program graduated secondary school, compared to the national Indigenous average of 65 per cent, while 85 per cent of 2020 graduates transitioned to further study or work, compared to the national Indigenous employment rate of only 49 per cent.

“We are thrilled to receive this donation from Cadbury, which will support our important work in providing intensive mentoring support to First Nations’ girls and young women in schools,” says Andrea Goddard, Stars Foundation CEO.

“Michelle’s artwork beautifully explores all the mother roles within First Nations kinship systems and extended communities.

“Our Stars Mentors are an important part of that extended caring community for the young women in our programs, providing holistic care, guidance and support.”

The new limited-edition 450g Gift Box is now available in all leading supermarkets and department stores for RRP $15.50.

A national network for young grape and wine professionals has been launched, set to foster the next generation of winemakers, viticulturists, cellar door staff, wine judges and other roles in Australia’s wine sector.

A new bill was introduced to Parliament on 19 November, which offers a framework for regulating the sale or importation of organic goods in Australia, and stronger opportunities for exporting organic products.

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.
