Jamestrong Packaging has invested in a half-a-million dollar label inspection system at its new positive-pressure infant formula production line in Kyabram, Victoria.

The Pressco Decospector 360 is a vision system that identifies and isolates any defects in packaging integrity and labelling errors.

It uses several cameras to inspect the can at production speeds.

The collected information is then compared with a template and any discrepancies between the two are logged and tracked.

The newly opened Kyabram plant produces 295 cans of infant formula per minute.

The vision unit is equipped with seven individual cameras to ensure complete vision of each can.

Cameras are in place to inspect the top, bottom, ends, and sides of the can, as well as an internal view for a complete 360-degree image of the packaging.

The plant is an early adopter of the global technology, and Jamestrong hopes to add the system to other plants across its network.

End Food Waste Australia (EFWA) and Hort Innovation have launched a new research program to tackle the challenges of harvest surplus and losses on-farm – a $2.5 billion opportunity for vegetable growers.

The federal government has confirmed it will not proceed with the Tax Laws Amendment (Incentivising Food Donations to Charitable Organisations) Bill 2024, saying the legislation contains “deficiencies that compromise its policy intent”, even as food insecurity remains at record levels across Australia.

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.
