Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) and APPEX will partner to hold a series of meat industry presentations and events alongside the 2024 packaging and processing event.

The AMPC is the specialist R&D provider for Australian meat processors with a mandate to provide research, development and extension services that improve the sustainability and efficiency of the sector.

Meat Industry Day, to be held on 13 March 2024, will be host to a variety of activities, including educational sessions specifically for the meat sector on the show floor.

AMPC’s innovation managers, who are based day-to-day within processing plants, will attend the show to network and see new technologies, and the day will end with meat industry networking drinks – open to anyone in the industry – at one of the new networking hubs on the show floor.

“We are very excited to partner with AMPC to help the red meat industry connect with the new technologies and suppliers that will be on show, APPEX is a unique opportunity to connect with such a diverse range of packaging, processing and technology suppliers,” said Jon Perry, event director, APPEX.

A national network for young grape and wine professionals has been launched, set to foster the next generation of winemakers, viticulturists, cellar door staff, wine judges and other roles in Australia’s wine sector.

A new bill was introduced to Parliament on 19 November, which offers a framework for regulating the sale or importation of organic goods in Australia, and stronger opportunities for exporting organic products.

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.
