RPC Promens and RPC Superfos have created a new sauces dispenser designed to reduce waste in the foodservice environment.

The bespoke dispenser, named Penguin in reference to its shape, can store seven varieties of sauces and is now used by French company Lesieur.

RPC Promens, who produce the blow-moulded top, led the project, and RPC Superfos manufactured the injection-moulded base.

Each dispenser can contain close to five litres, and the companies say the improved modernised pack performs significantly better than the one it replaces.

The extra emptying power, which reduces food waste, is achieved through a special design at the inner lower part of the dispenser.

Virginie Recoura, senior engineer of packaging research and innovation at Lesieur, says the dispenser makes it easier to exploit its content.

“Through the new dispenser our customers actually get up to 16 per cent more of our product thanks to its improved emptying.

The Penguin dispenser's ergonomic design creates a feel-good factor for end users pushing the pump, according to Recoura.

“The shape of the bottom also makes it comfortable for busy catering staff to put a hand underneath it when carrying it around,” she says.

“Hassle-free working procedures for replacing empty dispensers with filled ones are another clear benefit.”

Ensuring the right amount of sauce per serving is also in line with French legislation on better nutrition to fight obesity.
