The range which first launched in Austria in May and is due to arrive in Germany in July, uses Sonoco’s GreenCan solution. Made from 94 per cent paper including 69 per cent recycled content, the pack includes an integrated paper lid and a six per cent barrier layer for product protection. It’s widely recyclable and designed with circularity in mind.

The initiative supports the goals of the EU Green Deal, which promotes sustainability throughout the product life cycle. Sonoco (which also has operations in Australia and New Zealand) says European retailers have welcomed the collaboration, responding positively to both the packaging format and the product design.

The new spice blends including variants such as Cool Chick, Little Italy, Potato Party, Wonder Wok, Curry Crush and Avocado Love are aimed at younger consumers and are suitable for both vegan and non-vegan recipes. The launch is supported by a contemporary label design.

Alexandra Mayr, marketing manager at Kotányi, said, “Sustainability is a core principle embedded in all our processes at Kotányi. For this latest product launch, Sonoco’s GreenCan was the clear choice for our packaging, aligning perfectly with our environmental values.”

She added that the range reflects evolving consumer preferences and has received positive feedback from retailers on both the concept and design.

Axel Tesson, sales manager for Sonoco Consumer Europe, said: “Our partnership with Kotányi signals our commitment to providing the ideal sustainable solutions that reinforce brands’ visions. Our GreenCan solution reflects Kotanyi’s environmental responsibility without compromising... packaging for the customer.”
