Open IIoT will bring a complete Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) demonstration unit to CeBIT in Sydney later this month.

The IIoT industry group comprising SMC Corporation, Balluff, Beckhoff Automation, NORD Drivesystems, ZI-Argus, and Universal Robots will showcase its Industry 4.0 demo unit at the computing trade show, with the aim of displaying how Industry 4.0 is possible and beneficial to every industry and application.

“With consumer consumption behaviour constantly changing, the industry is stepping up to meet evolving demands. Whilst meeting demand is essential, enhanced productivity, cost savings and ultimately profits remain top priority for manufacturers both locally and abroad.

“Implementing new technologies can be costly – to purchase, implement and maintain. Thankfully there are trusted global suppliers who deliver a local edge and know what it takes to offer a competitive advantage for your business,” the group said.

Launched in March 2019, the Open IIoT group’s partnerships are already reaping rewards for both the companies involved and their customers, it says.

“By working with customers in all fields of manufacturing, the Open IIoT group has gained an understanding of the growing need for Industry 4.0 implementation and the need to ensure a faster and easier rollout.

“Together the partners in this organisation hold a wealth of global experience and technology to assist customers in getting their Industry 4.0 factories running sooner,” the group said.

CeBIT Australia 2019 will be held at Sydney’s International Convention Centre (ICC) from 29-31 October.

Food & Drink Business

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.
