The major global packaging show interpack is less than three months away, and local rep Robert Laing is ready to provide information and assistance to all who are preparing or considering making the trip to Dusseldorf for the once every three years event.

Laing has already sent a welcome letter and a visitor guide to all Australians and New Zealanders on the interpack database, but says those not on the database who have not received the letter and visitor guide are welcome to contact him for what he says is "valuable information".

He is also able to assist with accommodation in Dusseldorf, he says, “We can offer a range of options from hotel rooms, a cabin on a hotelship, or a private apartment.

“Please feel free to contact me at Messe Reps for any information on interpack, or advice on travel and accommodation planning.” Packaging professionals can email Laing at robert@messereps.com.

The interpack exhibition will attract upwards of 170,000 visitors over seven days 7-13 May, at the Messe Centre in Duesseldorf.

Laing says, “Once again interpack is again fully booked, which means that around 3000 exhibitors from 60 countries will present their solutions.

“The interpack exhibition is the essential event for the food, beverage, bakery, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, non-food and industrial sectors. No other trade fair in the world represents the entire supply chain for the packaging sector and related process industry.”

The PKN team will be on the ground at interpack reporting from the show.

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.
