PKN Packaging News is expanding, with the appointment of a new editor, highly experienced journalist Colleen Bate, who has joined the ANZ packaging industry’s media hub.

Bate joins a growing team that now comprises Lindy Hughson, managing editor and publisher; Wayne Robinson, associate editor; Jan Arreza, senior journalist; and Sharon Amos, national sales manager.

Bate comes with 25 years' experience in B2B industry reporting, in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, particularly in the printing and converting sector.

Lindy Hughson, publisher of PKN said: “We are delighted to have attracted a person of the calibre of Colleen Bate as editor of PKN. Colleen has vast experience in industry journalism, here and overseas. I know our readers will come to value her insight, and ability to distil complexity into an easy read.”

PKN now has multiple platforms, including the magazine, the industry website, the weekly news bulletin, as well as the industry’s video news bulletin PLAY PKN, the PKN Podcast, and the LIVE events. Bate will work across all platforms.

She will also be deputy editor of PKN sister title Print21, working with editor Wayne Robinson on all its media platforms for the ANZ printing industry.

Australia’s first social enterprise bakery, The Bread & Butter Project, has graduated its latest group of bakers, with its largest ever cohort marking the program’s 100th graduate.

The University of Sydney and Peking University have launched a Joint Centre for Food Security and Sustainable Agricultural Development, which will support research into improving the sustainability and security of food systems in Australia and China.

Sydney-based biotech company, All G, has secured regulatory approval in China to sell recombinant (made from microbes, not cows) lactoferrin. CEO Jan Pacas says All G is the first company in the world to receive the approval, and recombinant human lactoferrin is “next in line”.
