Spiral Foods, one of Australia’s leading suppliers and distributors of quality traditional foods, has turned to Great Wrap for its compostable pallet wrap to be introduced into its supply chain.

The Spiral Foods Group consists of four main brands – Spiral Foods, Bonsoy, Casalare and Riverina Grove.

The Group distributes, manufactures, contract packs, and imports quality products and ingredients. All four brands can be found nationally in retail outlets.

The company ships heavy pallets with food products on them, so a strong and reliable pallet wrap was non-negotiable.

Spiral Foods reached out to Great Wrap earlier this year, as it was interested in using its compostable hand pallet wrap and compostable machine pallet wrap. Since then, the company has worked closely with Great Wrap to test and trial its product, and to ensure it met local and international pallet shipping standards.

“As part of the food industry, we go across a number of supply chains, from manufacturing to supplying majors – us partnering with Great Wrap is taking a stance,” Raphaelle Wilson, marketing director at Spiral Foods, told PKN.

“The time for change is now, and Great Wrap has proven to produce an integral, strong and durable product, which does not burden the environment.

“Great Wrap is the only Australian-made compostable pallet wrap on the market. For us, it was supporting a local innovative business that offered a great sustainable solution to a growing problem.

“Using a product like Great Wrap just fits in with what we are trying to do at Spiral Foods. We want to be as natural as possible, and our packaging to be as sustainable as possible, so using a compostable pallet wrap is another piece to the puzzle.”

According to Julia Kay, co-founder of Great Wrap, this partnership is an entry-point for compostable innovators like Great Wrap to enter into the food and beverage industries.

“Spiral Foods is an early adopter of Great Wrap, and we’re proud that it is using our compostable pallet wrap to wrap and send its pallets in Melbourne,” Kay told PKN

“As the only Australian manufacturer of compostable stretch wrap, it is promising to see a leading Australian supplier and distributor of quality foods transitioning away from traditional pallet wrap.

“We’re also starting to see a domino effect within Australian businesses, where brands are beginning to influence each other, as well as their suppliers, to shift away from traditional pallet wrap and towards Great Wrap.”

Since Great Wrap’s launch in 2019, the company has gone through significant growth, and has now established a manufacturing facility in Australia.

Currently, the company is working on compostable machine pallet wraps and compostable catering wraps, which will allow Great Wrap extend its service to homes, the hospitality industry, and larger industries.

In recent years, there has been growing recognition that food and agriculture should be viewed not solely as economic sectors but as pillars of national resilience and security. The combined pressures of geopolitical tensions, natural disasters, tech vulnerabilities, and climate change are driving broader recognition of sovereign risk in food production and supply chains, placing it alongside traditional domains of national defence and security.
