Visy, an Australian-based global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has acquired Packsize Australia and New Zealand. Operating under ‘Packsize enabled by Visy’, the acquisition gives Visy exclusive distribution rights for Packsize’s technology and solutions, providing right sized boxes on demand.

Packsize is an established supplier of on demand packaging that combine precise right-sizing technology, equipment, accessories, and services required to package and ship goods directly from a packaging line. This innovation in turn leads to reduced freight costs, better protection for the product and reduction in waste.

The Packsize X5 will be on show at APPEX.

A standout technology in Visy's new portfolio is the Packsize X5 machine, a fully automated, right-sized packaging on demand system. It produces ready-to-pack, right-sized and labelled erected boxes. The machine will be on show for the first time in Australia at the upcoming APPEX 2024 trade show (on stand E120), taking place in Melbourne in March.

Rhys Jacob, GM for Visy Automation, says Visy is committed to being a trusted partner for customers. “We are excited to bring the Packsize technology our partners across Australian and New Zealand. By integrating this with our proven end-to-end systems and material handling equipment we will deliver real value and efficiency to customers.”

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.
