Food processing and packaging specialist TNA Solutions has secured the Australian Export Award for Manufacturing and Advanced Materials, recognised for its Australian-made production line technology that supports the global food industry.

The NSW-based company provides single-source, end-to-end solutions for snack production, offering over 140 products. With more than 600 employees across 30 offices worldwide, TNA Solutions has positioned itself as a key partner for major food manufacturers.

According to Alf Taylor, co-founder and managing director at TNA Solutions, “Being a homegrown Australian brand, we take great pride in our heritage and in bringing Australian manufacturing to the world.”

TNA’s origin story dates back to 1984 when Taylor developed a concept for the world’s first rotary high-speed vertical form fill and seal packaging machine, which doubled packing efficiency from 60 to 120 bags per minute.

More recently, TNA collaborated with Egypt’s National Services Projects Organisation (NSPO) to deliver two potato production lines, showcasing the capabilities of its Australian-made technology in the Middle East and North Africa. The hash brown and rosti line produces two metric tonnes per hour, while the French fries, wedges, and disks line produces up to 10 metric tonnes per hour.

Taylor noted that the project demonstrated the company’s ability to provide complete line solutions, saying, “It was one of our largest projects, allowing us to showcase our complete line capabilities.”

Looking ahead, TNA is focusing its export efforts on North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with Taylor citing key trends such as increased confectionery consumption in Asia, demand for healthier snacks in Europe, and North America’s preference for innovative flavours.

This is the second time TNA has been recognised at the Australian Export Awards, previously being a finalist in the same category in 2022. Taylor encouraged other businesses to participate, stating, “It’s an excellent opportunity to benchmark your success against peers, receive constructive feedback, and celebrate the contributions of the export sector to the economy.”

The Australian Export Awards, now in its 62nd year, is Australia’s longest-running business awards program, celebrating exporters' contributions to economic growth. This year, more than 360 applications were submitted nationwide, with 88 finalists collectively generating $7.8 billion in export earnings during FY2023/24.

The Awards are presented by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in collaboration with State and Territory awards programs, supported by sponsors including Australian Made, which highlighted the global trust in Australian manufacturing.

“Australian manufacturers are associated with producing quality, safe and ethical products,” said Australian Made chief executive Ben Lazzaro, adding that the Australian Made logo provides valuable third-party accreditation for exporters.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.

New Zealand oat milk start-ups, Otis and All Good, have merged to form a new plant based business – Good & Humble – dedicated to championing locally grown oat milk and expanding sustainable beverage options globally.
