The Tetra Pak cartons of long life milk – cow, lactose free, soy, oat and rice – are about to become a whole lot easier to use. Murray Goulburn’s Devondale milk range, Pauls' Zymil milk, and Vitasoy's soy, oat and rice milks will all appear on the shelves with the HeliCap this month.

Good-bye pull-tab. The one-step HeliCap screw cap from Tetra Pak is easy to open, reseals perfectly, is easy to pour and provides clearly visible tamper evidence. It replaces SlimCap, improving on all of its functions.

HeliCap comes in 23mm or 27mm and is available for Tetra Brik Aseptic and Tetra Prisma Aseptic cartons in a range of sizes and shapes, depending on the carton. The cutter-based closure is applied over a pre-laminated hole after the filling and forming process. The lid and tamper evidence ring are available in Tetra Pak standard colours, while the base frame and neck are white.

When the consumer opens the carton for the first time, the cutting teeth inside the neck of the closure spiral downwards, breaking open the tamper evidence ring and cutting through the pre-laminated hole.

"HeliCap is ideal where consumers are looking for ease of opening and only one-step. HeliCap provides a level of opening force consumers feel comfortable with. The lid is easy to grip, and cartons are easy to pour and re-seal," said Craig Salkeld, sales director, Tetra Pak Oceania.

"Customers benefit by delivering consumers with better overall opening performance at the same closure price, and from lower system operating costs than the SlimCap due to increased line efficiency, less waste and lower glue consumption.”

With the on-the-go market being the fastest growing sector to which it caters, Salkeld also noted that new Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge portion packs with HeliCap deliver a number of benefits here, one being the opportunity to create enhanced product differentiation.

"With a large sloping top and contoured side panels, these portion packs with HeliCap deliver enhanced handling for consumers and additional branding opportunities for customers," he added.

Oceania products that will soon be available with HeliCap include:

Murray Goulburn's Devondale skim, semi-skim and full cream milk range in one litre cartons;

Pauls Zymil lactose free milk range

Vitasoy's Organic Bean Soymilk, Soy Milky, Cafe Soymilk, Oatmilk and Ricemilk ranges.
