How much research, trialling and tasting does it take to create four varieties of a pure fruit yoghurt that is set naturally in the pot. it doesn’t need any artificial additives or preservatives, layered with fruit on the bottom and yoghurt above, and contains no cane sugar?

“It took two years of research and development to create these little pots of purity however we’ve kept our promise and haven’t added anything artificial. We continue to make yoghurt the original way; naturally set in the pot with no artificial additives or preservatives, and we think the result really speaks for itself,” Jalna quality assurance manager, John Schofield stated.

Along the way, the company has built in some other features that make the wait worthwhile for consumers.

1. Strong lids with a heavy duty seal. The 200g lids are identical to those on its 500g and 1kg tubs. They are made of strong plastic and their perforated rim seal can endure being dumped into a supermarket bag, squashed in a school bag and otherwise manhandled. After the seal is broken, the lid will still pop into place and remain there.

2. Stackability. They may not sit on the shelf in handy four packs for purchase, but their squat shape allows the tubs to be stacked in the fridge at home.

3. Recycability. Jalna Dairy Foods is one of the few dairy companies to use recyclable plastics in packaging, so they can be collected for conversion to non-food containers. So Jalna tubs do not have to add to land fill and generally conserve energy.

“Jalna use food-grade HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) plastic to make Jalna 200g, 500g and 1kg yoghurt tubs. These bear the embossed recyclable symbol “2”. LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) plastic is used to make Jalna lids and these carry the embossed “4” recycle symbol, Schofield confirmed.

“Our tubs and lids can all be recycled. Our plastics are BPA (bisphenol A) free. Jalna use only safe, food grade plastics from HACCP approved suppliers.”

Of course, Jalna is also a brand the nurtures human health. So its new Pure Yoghurt with Fruit range is:

• Pot set therefore there is no need for any artificial additives

• Based on milk and real fruit from the Goulburn Valley and Far North Queensland farming regions

• Contain 600 million+ aBc probiotic cultures per pot

• A good source of calcium

• Australian family made and owned

• No cane sugar, artificial sweeteners, gluten, gelatin, preservatives, colours or food acids

Jalna’s Pure Yoghurt with Fruit range is based on milk from the same farming families that Jalna has been working with for more than 30 years, with real blueberry, raspberry, mango and passionfruit from orchards in the Goulburn Valley and Far North Queensland.

Every batch is different, and taste testing occurs each morning at 11 o’clock to ensure that the yoghurt that day lives up to the quality behind which the brand stands

Jalna is a third generation Australian business owned by the McLaren family and has been producing all-natural pot set yoghurt since 1959.

"The company has been built on the foundations of real health food made the traditional way; there are no shortcuts and decisions are made for the greater good of the customer, because that’s the right thing to do," Jalna promises.

According to Australia’s 2023-24 Gender Equality Scorecard, there is still a “sizeable and pervasive” total remuneration gender pay gap of almost 22 per cent. The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) research shows that while the food and beverage manufacturing industry has started reducing this gap on paper, the uneven composition of its workforce has an impact.
