Menges Roller USA was not satisfied being a world leader in manufacturing and maintaining precision industrial rollers for the plastic and paper packaging industry. So it took its capabilities to the very top.

For plastic and paper companies, rollers are very important components – a roller can have a big impact on a converting factory’s output (quantity) and overall product quality. So to maintain your position as one of the world’s top providers of industrial rollers you need to be responsive to your market’s most stringent demands.

Menges Roller has therefore added a state-of-the-art machine that increases both the size capacity and technical tolerance of the rollers it produces for the plastic and paper packaging industry. It is now able to manufacture rollers that are up to 10 metres in length.

Matthew Menges, president of Menges Roller, explained the investment, “We see plastic and paper packagers adapting wider and wider web widths… so we’ve increased our roller building capacity. It is a simple formula, but it is very important. Larger web widths are a good thing.”

Menges’ new machine uses the very latest computer controls to form precision groove patterns on roller covers made from rubber, silicone, urethane or other synthetic compounds. It can also make very precise outside diameter modifications, including parabolic crowns and reverse crowns. The machine can make grooves and diameter changes as small as a thousandth of an inch.

This capacity expansion is part of Menges Roller’s Rubber Division, which offers dozens of rollcover compounds and finishing options - from high-release silicones for corona treaters to abrasion-resistant urethanes, and standard rollcover compounds such as EPDM, hypalon and nitrile.

In fact, Menges has an ongoing technology program aimed at meeting the changing needs of large capacity plants and processors, and in 2013, Menges Roller made significant investments to enhance the capacity of its Heat Transfer Roller division. This new machine is a product of that investment.

Menges Roller Company serves the plastics, paper, non-wovens and steel markets with high-performance heat transfer and chill rolls, large process rolls, as well as rubber and elastomer-covered rollers. It also provides a full range of maintenance and repair services, from comprehensive roll refurbishing, to journal and core replacement, dynamic balancing, parabolic crowning, chrome finishing, and rubber covering options, including a multitude of groove and serration options.

Although it calls Chicago home, the company serves customers and OEMS worldwide.
