Pulp, paper and packaging company Oji Fibre Solutions has announced it will buy Victoria-based company Cardboard Cartons.

This is another step in the growth of the paper-based packaging business following its recent investment in a new $70m state-of-the-art greenfield packaging facility in Yatala, Queensland which is due for completion later this year.

Also this year, OjiFS opened the doors on an upgraded and expanded multi-ply paper bag plant in Penrose, Auckland.

The latest acquisition of Cardboard Cartons was decided through an agreement with founder Linden Barry.

"The purchase is a logical fit for Oji Fibre Solutions,” CEO Dr Jon Ryder said.

"It will expand our packaging business and allow increased vertical integration while also providing complementary manufacturing capabilities and product lines for our customers.”

Located in Dandenong South in Victoria and employing approximately 28 people, Cardboard Cartons manufactures and supplies specialty packaging solutions including plain and printed corrugated cartons, litho-printed cartons, shelf-ready cartons, and point-of-purchase displays to a variety of industries.

“The purchase confirms our commitment to provide our customers with a broader service and product solution,” Ryder said.

“It is a part of our packaging growth strategy and our first major acquisition in Australia following the Queensland investment."
