The Packaging Council of Australia has announced plans to sign an MOU with the Printing Industry Association (PIAA) to create a single association to serve the interests of packaging and printing businesses.
David Carter, PCA CEO, reached out to PCA members last week, announcing the continued Extraordinary General Meeting adjourned on 26 April 2016, at 2pm on 26 October in Melbourne.
Carter said: "As the PCA moves forward we have spent the last couple of months reviewing how to bring greater value for our members and the packaging industry. We would like to share the opportunities we are working on and get feedback on what you think."
"Looking at the tremendous amount of consolidation in our industry and rate of development in innovation we believe the PCA needs to broaden its scope and look for solutions to new issues that face our member businesses.
He said the PCA has moved quickly to begin a closer relationship and association with the PIAA, including shared office space in Sydney following the closure of the PCA office in South Melbourne.
"It is now our intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the PIAA that clearly sets out a pathway to identify and agree the synergies and benefits of becoming an industry association that is able to bring services that are of a unique and undeniable value which will meet the needs of todays’ 'Packaging and Printing' companies," Carter said.
"The PCA has delivered many benefits to members in the past and intends to build on these in our future strategic direction," he said
"We believe that true representation that allows support of member issues such as, advocacy, product stewardship schemes (an alternative to the Australian Packaging Covenant), legal representation, education, training, forums, materials, standards, food contact & safety, risk identification, environmental accreditation, to name just a few."
"We warmly invite and would be very grateful for your attendance at the continued Extraordinary General Meeting... to confirm support of our recommendations," he said.
Carter also invited members to contact him directly via email, david@pca.org.au; or phone 03 9690 1955 or mobile 0410 446 743 to discuss their ideas or provide feedback on the proposal.
