Pod Pack Australia’s Silverwater plant now houses three process and packaging machines. Each produces quantities of between 100kg to several tonnes of individually branded no-waste pods.

The domestic market is growing, but the biggest surge is happening for pods in office and retail markets, including coffee shops and chains, pubs, clubs, motels, cafes, caterers and restaurants.

And in decaf.

Pod Pack Australia operations manager Martin French, explained, “The big change in coffee retailing and our expansion is being driven in part by surging customer demand not only for more varieties of fresh coffee, but also for the huge rise in demand for decaf.

“The trend in Australasia is following the big trend in the US, where decaf accounts for close to 20 per cent of sales. While we are not near that level yet, we are seeing a strong and rising demand for our wholesale and retail customers who appreciate that traditional grinding on demand can result in costly waste, extra grinders and stale product in specialty lines, which are, by their nature, used less often than mainstream blends.”

Pod Packs pods can be used with all existing commercial machines. They just require a new vertically adjustable filter to be added. This will maximise the quality of the extraction of coffee using 10 and 14 g pods and doesn’t lock users into one particular type of machine.

Pod Pack pods are available in 7, 10 and 14 g sizes. They are hermetically sealed in foil pouches, using nitrogen to preserve the fresh flavour and extend shelf life for up to two years. The new machines at the Silverwater plant produce pods that are clean, hygienic, simple-to-use and waste-free.

Need more advantages? Here they are:

Coffee is already ground, closed in the proper quantity (single or double) and tamped for optimum extraction every time.

Pods come in many different blends and bean origins, each branded to highlight customer preferences. Even small users can offer variety.

The pods allow unqualified staff to produce a quality product every time. In domestic use, they provide fresh, clean and perfect extraction by any member of the family.

Pods are easy to store and count in vending and dispensing units, in offices and motels. They are ideal for in-room use in motels and hotels.

They maximise hygiene and cost-efficiency in workplaces and restaurants by eliminating extra grinders, stale old coffee, mess and waste.

According to Australia’s 2023-24 Gender Equality Scorecard, there is still a “sizeable and pervasive” total remuneration gender pay gap of almost 22 per cent. The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) research shows that while the food and beverage manufacturing industry has started reducing this gap on paper, the uneven composition of its workforce has an impact.
