Italian packaging, filling, handling and palletising systems supplier OCME, represented in Australasia by HBM Packaging technologies, has unveiled a new patented DryBlock system, combining all dry components of production lines into a single, integrated and synchronised monoblock.

The new system, introduced at a company open house event at OCME's headquarters in Parma, Italy, combines a labeller, a choice of packaging machine (shrink wrapper, tray-former, wrap-around and pick and place) and a palletising module that typically consists of a layer forming unit and one or more robots or alternatively traditional palletisers.

OCME says the combined offering was designed to deliver increases in filling and packaging efficiency, with the combined components of a DryBlock line greater than the sum of the efficiency of the individual units.

It also delivers cost reduction, with a single operator able to control the entire line, energy reductions of up to 36 per cent, and substantial space reduction due to elimination of buffering and accumulation conveyors.

The company says the system also reduces the risk of damage to products on the line, even when dealing with ultra-light, fragile, delicate and unstable containers.
