With sustainable packaging increasingly a major focus for marketers and those that work within the packaging supply chain, RMIT and the Sustainable Packaging Alliance (SPA) will host a seminar next week to help explain how to ensure that brand and customer loyalty are maintained together with adopting a sustainable approach.

The event, which runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm at the RMIT Design Hub in Swanston Street, Melbourne, on 21 March, is designed will bridge the gap for marketing, packaging technologists, product innovation and procurement managers with high level and practical presentations to demonstrate the marketing advantages of taking a practical and sustainable approach to product branding and the broader packaging strategy for brand owners.

It will feature speakers from a diverse range of industries and experience in the management, design and marketing of packaging for sustainability, including:

Michael Polonsky from Deakin University, speaking on marketing implications of sustainablity; Karli Verghese of RMIT who will address product life cycle tools; Outerspace Design's Michael Grima speaking on design briefs for sustainability; Connie Sellaro from logistics specialist CHEP, explaining the company's waste reduction business model; Helen Williams from Sweden's Karlstad University presenting on increasing consumer value through sustainable packaging; and Charlie Raggs from the Wrigley Company, who will explain the company's sustainable packaging toolkit.

The SPA and RMIT seminar also aligns with the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) “Future of Packaging White Paper” which is aimed at driving more strategic and tangible action on packaging sustainability.
