The Collective has won five awards at the inaugural 2015 Drinks International Wine Design Awards, including Best of Show.
The inaugural Wine Design Awards were launched by Drinks International for the following reason:
“The packaging of wine is very staid and predictable – a 75cl bottle, usually Bordeaux or Burgundy-shaped, with a front and back label. What’s in the bottle maybe brilliant but if a consumer never picks up the bottle and buys it, he or she will never know. So how do you get them to pick it up in the first place? Eye-catching packaging is essential to gain trial.”
The new awards recognised excellence in the following categories:
- Supreme Champion & Best New Design of a Wine Brand
- Best Repackaging of an Individual Wine Product
- Best Repackaging of a Wine Range
- Best Copywriting for a Wine Label
- Best Alternative Wine Packaging Design & Best Carbon Footprint Packaging Initiative
- Best Design for a Wine Range
The Collective has won the Best of Show award, Supreme Champion & Best New Design of a Wine Brand, for Treasury Wine Estate’s Pepperjack.
The judges noted, “They liked the elegant, slightly quirky design but most importantly it told a prospective buyer exactly what they were getting – a full-bodied Shiraz from McLaren Vale in Australia that goes great with steak.”
Beefsteak Club for Ehrmanns Wines was highly commended.
The Australian and UK design agency also won Best Design for a Wine Range for Juxtapose, for Plantagenet Wines. “The judges liked the concept and use of old-fashioned typewriter-like type for the brand name fonts.”
Spier Collaborative Series, Blind Astronomer Pinotage 2008 and Chenin Blanc 2009, was highly commended.
The Collective’s work for Tomich Wines was highly commended in Best Repackaging of an Individual Wine Product. The judges stated that it was, “A simple design with a description down the side of the front label. Classy and understated.”
Best Repackaging of an Individual Wine Product went to Brazilian Soul Chardonnay. Brazilian Soul is Vinicola Aurora’s brand for the international market.
Best Repackaging of a Wine Range also went to Brazilian Soul. Rapitalà Le Selezioni by Gruppo Italiano Vini was highly commended, for the Alto Nero d’Avola and Nadir executions in particular.
The Collective was highly commended in Best Copywriting for a Wine Label for Robert Oatley Vineyards’ Four in Hand.
Best Alternative Wine Packaging Design & Best Carbon Footprint Packaging Initiative was awarded toStranger & Stranger’s Paper Boy for Truett Hurst.
“The judges immediately recognised the distinctive style of Stranger & Stranger. Basically a collapsible bag inside a papier maché mould. Innovative.”
