Südpack Packaging Group Germany introduced Veraplex last month at interpack.

"Veraplex is the film of the future," Südpack managing partner, Johannes Remmele asserted. "The material achieves an outstanding thickness to function performance ratio that is unprecedented in today's market. It's a revolution in film."

The next generation film is highly transparent and may be designed using flexographic and rotogravure printing processes. It is extremely thin, yet provides outstanding puncture resistance with an extremely high oxygen/aroma barrier.  And it creates a very eco-sustainable packaging when laminated with paper.

It is suitable for products with high mechanical requirements and for corrosive bulk products.

In the Veraplex Craft option, the film is laminated with paper. At just 25 micrometres thick, the film improves eco-sustainability while maintaining all the Veraplex product protection properties and adding product presentation advantages. The renewable resource ensures stability yet has a natural look and feel, making its ecological advantages obvious to consumers. This gives it a 21st century advantage. Options include a laser-cut window so that the product inside may be viewed by consumers. And Veraplex Craft combines the strengths of both of its materials – it has the functionality of film and the consumer acceptance of paper as a packaging material. Veraplex Craft can be processed as a tubular bag and as a lid film on standard packaging machines. It creates stable, packable bags whose degree of stiffness can vary to meet individual requirements. Veraplex is also available in white for opaque packaging that protects its contents from light.

Veraplex is available as a laminate or a paperless co-extruded lid film. It has excellent mechanical properties, so it can be processed on all standard machines without sacrificing performance capabilities. Its minimal thickness and reduced weight mean that a roll holds twice as much material, enabling longer run times with fewer roll changes during the production process.

Because of Veraplex's high aroma barrier and puncture resistance, it is especially suited for packing demanding bulk products. The film can be used in bulk packaging for industrial processing in the B2B sector, as well as B2C packaging for consumers. In both cases, the extremely thin film creates an optimum packaging to product ratio – even for a small number of units.
