Fengfan farm products, on the other hand, is a young brand. But its birthplace is a very traditional village called Jintan, in an agricultural belt in South China. The brand supplies fresh local farm products and upholds traditional farming methods. Recycling, culture and portability were the keywords for the design brief of its 10 kg rice packaging. The fish reference in the packaging is not necessarily a product use suggestion. In Mandarin, fish (yu) is a homonym with abundance (yu) and people use the greeting, “fish every year “ as a blessing to each other especially during spring festival. Prime Star is a fast food restaurant chain in Moscow considered to be a step up from the other global chains we all know and use without expecting to have a gourmet experience. Its point of difference is that it combines fast and casual service with healthy, premium quality food. When Prime Star did a brand study, it found that the brand’s message was getting lost in its dull, recessive packaging design, and the brand was perceived as neutral and unemotional. So Prime Star told creative agency, Linii Group, to design new packaging that would tell consumers the prime Star is “open to experiments, sociable, ready to make fun of itself”. The agency came up with idea of using illustrations that tell ironic stories about people using the brand. The food’s naturalness and freshness is reflected in the illustrative style of Estonian illustrator, Eiko Ojala.
Mikhail Gubergrits, LINII Group creative director, explained that for this restaurant chain, packaging is an essential point of contact and delivers the brand values “100%”. The task was to develop an emotional connection with people and convey the idea that Prime Star means modern, stylish, tasty and healthy. “…Therefore, we developed a new style of package design which is based on lively illustrations featuring an English character.”
