The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP)'s NSW division will be holding a technical seminar covering recent trends in plastics.

Titled ‘Consumer and Environmental Trends in Plastics: Reuse. Recycle’, the event will be held on Wednesday 4 July in Parramatta, Sydney.

The panel will discuss the current global discussion around plastics and the circular economy, oxo degradable plastic, the shift towards sustainable packaging, recycling issues and trends, and moving away from single-use plastics and towards recycled products.

Other areas for discussion will include how compostable bioplastics can assist in the diversion of organic waste from landfill and utilising compostable bioplastics for foodservice disposables.

Panellists will include: Paul Klymenko (Planet Ark CEO), Joanne Howarth (Planet Protector MD), Richard Fine (BioPak founder) and Kurt Palmer (Steinert Australia).

Sydney-based biotech company, All G, has secured regulatory approval in China to sell recombinant (made from microbes, not cows) lactoferrin. CEO Jan Pacas says All G is the first company in the world to receive the approval, and recombinant human lactoferrin is “next in line”.
