Amcor has published its Decarbonisation Roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; its targets are aligned with the latest climate science aiming to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative.

Amcor’s Decarbonisation Roadmap features ‘4 + 1’ focus areas:

  • Product redesign: Innovating Amcor's product designs to lower their carbon footprint.
  • Recycled content: Increasing the use of recycled materials in Amcor's packaging solutions.
  • Renewable electricity: Transitioning to renewable sources to power its operations.
  • Supply chain collaboration: Partnering closely with suppliers to ensure they meet high sustainability standards and align with Amcor’s decarbonisation targets.

The ‘+1’ area focuses on enhancing operational efficiency through actions such as improving water and waste management, boosting energy efficiency and upgrading equipment.

“Sustainability is a constant motivation for everyone at Amcor – we want the environment to be better off because of our leadership and products,” said Peter Konieczny, interim-CEO of Amcor.

“We have been successfully reducing our carbon footprint for years and this Decarbonisation Roadmap will help us and our partners make faster and longer-lasting progress.

“The publication of the Decarbonisation Roadmap serves as another tangible expression of Amcor’s commitment to sustainability and climate mitigation.”

Amcor has been tracking and reporting on the environmental impacts of its operations since 2008.

In FY23, 22 Amcor sites achieved 100 per cent renewable electricity use and a 10.2 per cent reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions compared to FY22. In addition, it increased its renewable electricity use by 244 per cent compared to FY22.

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.  

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.
