Detpak’s collection bag service for its RecycleMe cups has received an endorsement from environmental charity Planet Ark.

The RecycleMe collection bag service aims to enable smaller cafés, schools, and offices to recycle Detpak’s recyclable, disposable coffee cups.

Detpak partnered with Parcelpoint so the bags, when full, can be dropped off at any one of its 1400 locations across Australia. Alternatively, the full bags can be collected via courier. The cups and lids are then sent to be recycled by Shred-X. The bag itself is recycled as well.

Each bag can hold up to 250 cups, or 1000 lids, and they can be ordered on the Detpak website.

Planet Ark said it only endorses products and systems that meet strict standards in regard to their environmental outcomes, quality of the product or programme, health benefits and cost-effectiveness.

“We follow the waste hierarchy, which encourages consumers to firstly avoid, reduce and reuse before recycling,” a statement from the organisation said.

“However, we appreciate that not everyone will have the opportunity or time to sit down for a coffee in the shop or bring along a reusable cup every day. The award-winning RecycleMe recycling system offers an end-to-end environmental solution for both the cup and the lid that guarantees every cup and lid collected will be recycled.”

Planet Ark, established in 1992, helps people and organisations reduce their impact on the environment.
