Pact Group’s fluid-catching rPET meat tray has won a Green Ribbon Award for environmental waste minimisation.

The recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) Moisturelock tray was developed for New Zealand retailer Foodstuff.

They are made up of 50 per cent recycled plastic, fully recyclable, and can capture fluid in the base.

The company says the ‘dimples’ in the bottom of the tray hold the fluid even when the package is tilted or turned upside down.

"As a result, customers don’t have to worry about meat fluids sullying their shopping, or having to remove and dispose of soaker pads prior to preparing their meat," Pact Group said.

New Zealand’s Minister for the Environment, the Hon. Dr. Nick Smith, and the Minister of Conservation, the Hon Maggie Barry, announced the 2016 winners at a ceremony at Parliament last week.

The Green Ribbon Awards recognise contributions towards protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s environment.
