New Zealand based company Better Packaging Co has developed the Pollast!c mailer and tote, made from 100 per cent recycled ocean bound plastic, and launched its IndieGoGo campaign to fund it.
Creator of the Real Dirt Bag and Spot On compostable mailing bags, Better Packaging Co has used certified and traceable soft plastics for the new Pollast!c, said to be a “world first” in sustainable eCommerce packaging.
By treating plastic pollution as a valuable resource and bringing it back into the loop, Better Packaging Co. believes it is providing a truly circular solution. It is also working with some of the poorest coastal communities in the world, and rewarding them for cleaning up their own environment with long term benefits, like food, education, and clean energy.
“We are now working with communities in some of world’s most impoverished coastal regions to clean up beaches and riverways. We collect this plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean and then recycle it into packaging. We bring that 'lost' plastic back into the loop and, because it's recyclable with soft plastics, it’s a circular solution to plastic pollution,” said Kate Bezar, creative director at Better Packaging Co.
