Joanne Howarth, CEO of Planet Protector Packaging and CEO of APCO, Brooke Donnelly appeared on a recent ABC News segment covering the phasing out of expanded polystyrene.

The report highlighted the use of polystyrene in packaging, and moves being made by businesses to shift away from it. Officeworks, an APCO member, was cited as an example of a company that has sought alternative solutions in the form of cardboard for product protection during shipping.

On the subject of alternative solutions, Joanne Howarth was given the opportunity to explain its flagship product Woolpack,  by now well known to PKN readers. Her company, also an APCO member and currently in the throes of a crowdfunding campaign, is manufacturing a waste-wool based solution for insulated shipping containers.

Called on to speak to the change happening in the packaging industry, Brooke Donnelly expressed her confidence that the industry will meet the phasing out targets.

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) says it is not in a position to revise its guidance for FY16 due to lower-than-expected performance in China and distribution issues in California. The company said it was unlikely to meet FY26 depletion targets for Penfolds in China.

For more than 35 years, family-owned producer, Gourmet Dairy Co., has been manufacturing sauces, dairy and non-dairy products under its own brands and as a contract manufacturer for some of Australia’s most recognised labels. Now, the company is investing more than $1 million to expand its production capabilities and support new product innovation.

Expressions of interest are now open for tenancy at the $17.14 million Central Coast Food Manufacturing Innovation Hub, expected to open in March 2026.
