A Select Committee of the Legislative Council has been established to inquire into, and report on, the recycling of soft plastics and other recyclable material in South Australia.

The Committee will have particular reference to the following:

  • How SA has responded to REDcycle being unable to process soft plastics;
  • Investigate how supermarkets and other collection points have ceased collections, and what can be done to re-establish these services;
  • Determine whether funding from the state government, including Green Industries SA funding, has been sufficient to support SA businesses and local government councils within the soft plastics and other recyclables industry, including aluminium;
  • Identifying short and long-term opportunities and solutions to ensure soft plastics can be recycled in SA;
  • Examining strategies more broadly to reduce soft plastic waste generation and better management of commercial and residential waste; and
  • Any other related matters.

Any person or organisation wanting to make a written submission to the inquiry, or register an interest in presenting oral evidence to the Committee, is invited to do so by Friday 8 September 2023.

The Committee reserves the right to determine which witnesses will be invited to provide an oral submission.

Written submissions and expressions of interest, queries, or discussions on the submission date, should be addressed to the secretary of the Committee at email address screcycling@parliament.sa.gov.au, phone number 08 8237 9416, or to GPO Box 572, Adelaide SA 5001.
