In this AUSPACK video interview, Mark Emmett, CEO and owner of HMPS Group and Propac Industrial, speaks with Lindy Hughson on Australian manufacturing, the group's growth, and the capabilities on show.

The upheaval of the last two-plus years has highlighted the need for a robust supply chain, with local manufacture a lynchpin.

OEM HMPS has and always will be a local manufacturer, with plants in three locations across Australia.

Speaking to PKN at AUSPACK, Mark Emmett related how Covid has seen the company strengthen its off-site support model.

"We now offer clients VR support, we have HMPS Vision and IOT systems to help with remote support and fault finding. We have also invested in a fleet of vehicles which travel the states to provide our customers with on-site support," he said.

"Through the acquisition of key brands in the industry (integrated Machinery and ProPak Industrial) we now offer a complete end-of-line packaging solution - whether you want to bag it, box it or wrap it - we have you covered."

Also important from a group perspective, Emmett shared that HMPS now offers full turnkey solutions, so customers have the benefit of using the group's engineering expertise to project manage a complete packaging line.

"This means customers deal with one point of contact for the entire project; we already have several projects under our belt," he said, noting that HMPS has won tenders agianst international competitors on a number of projects.

Emmett drove home the message that manufacturers should "look local".

"Our local manufacturing expertise is servicing Australian companies across the continent and there is no better time than now to secure your supply chain and partner with a company like HMPS on your next project."

Food & Drink Business

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.
