The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will be exhibiting and running a session at Waste Expo 2022, held on 26-27 October, with industry partners the Australian Food & Grocery Council (AFGC) and the National Retail Association (NRA).

The session will discuss the new program designed to help businesses adopt the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) and will be running during day two of the Expo at 10am in Theatre 1.

Attendees will hear from a consortium of leading industry associations about how they are working on a new campaign to empower SMEs to start using the ARL on their packaging, which in turn will guide their customers how to recycle correctly, and help push Australia towards achieving the 2025 National Packaging Targets.

The lead associations in this project, which has received grant funding from the Australian government, will collectively discuss the new SME ARL program, and why it is important to the businesses, their customers and the wider industry.

If your value chains works with SMEs and are trying to better understand how to encourage them to uptake the ARL on their packaging, then this session should not be missed.

The industry panel includes:

  • Nerida Kelton, executive director of the AIP and vice-president sustainability and save food at the World Packaging Organisation (WPO)
  • Barry Cosier, sustainability director at the AFGC
  • Bonnie Marshall, policy officer at the NRA
  • Moderators: Sustainable Sally Williams and Ralph Moyle, education coordinator at the AIP

“This will be the AIP’s first time to exhibit and support Waste Expo, so we are really looking forward to everyone visiting us on the stand and attending our panel discussion,” Kelton told PKN.

“If you are attending Waste Expo and you work in or around packaging, please come and find out how the AIP can help you with your training and education.”

The program is being delivered in a four-way partnership with the AIP, NRA, AFGC and the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO).

The AIP’s exhibition stand during the two-day trade event will be at #A102.
