Australian company Natures Organics – owner of well known brands Earth Choice, OC (Organic Care), Fruits Haircare and Purity Sensitive – is launching Cove, a range of cleaning products that use reusable and refillable packaging.

The range of surface, bathroom, glass cleaners and concentrated laundry liquid are packaged in reusable aluminium bottles designed to be replenished in-home with recyclable pouches.

The refill pouches contain plant-based formulations and are designed to be mixed with water straight from the tap.

By removing water from its refills, the packaging size is reduced, and 75 per cent less water is used in production, helping reduce emissions in transport with fewer delivery trucks on the road. The pop-coloured pouches are made with 80 per cent less plastic than a standard bottle, according to Natures Organics.

The Cove brand partnered with REDcycle to ensure the refill pouches are recyclable through the return-to-store programme. The pouches are recycled and turned into useful items like park benches and playground equipment.

Developed by a team of scientists with a goal to use the latest in green technology, the new range of household products are non-toxic, with no harsh chemicals, and cruelty free.

Cove products include bathroom and shower cleaner; laundry liquid; surface all-purpose cleaner; and glass and window cleaner.

Consumers can choose a starter kit with includes refillable bottles and one refill of each product, as well as cleaning cloths and dish tablets.

Consumers can order Cove products online, or they can be found in Coles stores and selected Ritchie’s supermarkets.

You can read more about refillable packaging and Cove in the upcoming September-October print issue of PKN Packaging News.

Food & Drink Business

The Senate Economics Committee has rejected the Food Donations Bill that proposed a tax offset for companies donating excess food to food relief agencies rather than dumping it. While the bill had the potential to deliver the equivalent of 100 million meals to food relief organisations, the committee said it had “serious concerns” including the bill’s “generous” tax concessions. Food relief agencies and social welfare organisations have questioned the committee’s decision to reject the bill outright rather than make recommendations for amendments.
