A Danish company has acquired Melbourne-based labels and flexible packaging specialist Burgess Printing and Packaging.

Schur International is a family-owned Danish packaging group which owns 15 companies globally.

With employees based in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, the US, and now Australia, it offers folding boxes, flexible packaging, packaging machines, and packaging systems.

Burgess employs 40 people and has a yearly revenue of close to AU$18m.

The acquisition will help develop the Schur Star concept worldwide, as well as develop the Burgess business and market further.

Schur Star offers pre-made flexible bags custom-made for filling on a linked production line, providing producers, packers and growers the ability to change bag size and functionalities within five minutes.

Jan Evans is the fifth-generation owner of the Burgess Group and says both companies are based on long-standing family values and a focus on supporting the demands of their customers.

The acquisition of Burgess anchors the Schur Star concept in Australia and New Zealand.

Treasury Wine Estates says it has made significant progress on sustainability commitments set in 2021. The company expects to be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity by the end of 2024. 

Elixinol Wellness says its binding agreement to acquire Teresa Cutter’s health and wellness company, The Healthy Chef, will enhance revenue, margins, and EBITDA. The deal is worth up to $5.5 million with Cutter staying on as a consultant for three years.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is working to improve crop productivity and secure future food supplies with its new $65 million Plant Futures Facility. Fitted out with technology to finely control temperature, light intensity, light quality, humidity and carbon dioxide concentration, the space will allow researchers to study plant responses to future climates.
