The global Save Food initiative is gathering momentum, announcing this week that it has passed the 1000 member mark. Australia is a strong supporter.

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is an active member, and among its initiatives is the Save Food Packaging Design Award.

The Save Food Packaging Design Award forms part of the Australasian PIDA [Packaging & Processing Innovation & Design] awards program, which is still open for entries until 23 February.

All winners of 2018 PIDA awards are eligible for entry into the 2019 WorldStar Packaging Awards.

Last year's winner of the Save Food PIDA award, Sealed Air Food Care, has gone on to be recognised with a WorldStar 2018 Award.

Sealed Air is joined by five other Australian companies who have won WorldStars.

Woolcool was also announced as a finalist in the World Packaging Organisation's Save Food Award, a special category in the 2018 WorldStar Packaging Awards.

In the WorldStar Awards, Sealed Air has been recognised for its Fresh Technologies Ltd and Sealed Air Cryovac Freshness Plus design, which was developed for New Zealand brand Fressure; while Woolcool has had three category wins.

This year, the WorldStars will be presented in Australia alongside the PIDA Awards at a gala dinner on 2 May, to be held during the AIP national conference (2-3 May), in Surfers Paradise, QLD.

At the conference itself a number of speakers, including keynote presenter Karl Deily, global CEO of Sealed Air, will highlight the significant role packaging can play in reducing food waste.

The AIP was recently recognised by the Australian Government's National Food Waste Strategy for developing the Save Food Packaging award.

Food & Drink Business

Australia’s premier media platform for food and beverage manufacturers, Food & Drink Business, has launched its annual awards for excellence, The Hive Awards, and is calling for entries from across the sector.

It has been 20 years since SPC was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) but this week returned as SPC Global (ASX: SPG) following its merger with The Original Juice Company (OJC) and Nature One Dairy (NOD).

New Zealand Infant formula brand, LittleOak, is boosting its retail presence through a new partnership with Independent Pharmacies Australia (IPA) that will see its range available in IPA’s banner group, Chemist Discount Centre (CDC).
