CHEP Pallecon Solutions has released the latest technology pallecon, which can be shipped across continents, cuts costs, mitigates handling risks and reduces waste. PKN spoke to Asia Pacific director of sales John Plummer about the new addition to the family.

A division of Brambles, CHEP Pallecon Solutions provides bulk handling containers, bins and liners to customers across a range of industries. It aims to reduce transport costs and waste,  improve the handling efficiency of semi-bulk materials and ensure product integrity as it moves through the supply chain.

With 22 service centres operating across the APAC region, CHEP Pallecon is well known for its pooling solutions and operates on a global scale. Its specialised container management solutions have application in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries.

“CHEP Pallecon products are used to manage the flow of bulk products and the user-friendly tools – PalDirect and PalTrak – allow customers to easily order, transfer and dehire pallecons matching the supply of packaging equipment to production output,” explains John Plummer, Asia Pacific director of sales.

ICONIC INNOVATION

The company’s latest release is a next-generation plastic pallecon called the iCONIC. Available in the 1000mm x 1200mm international footprint, it has been developed in response to a growing demand for bulk packaging that can be shipped across continents.

“The iCONIC generates sustainable cost advantages, efficiency improvements and waste reduction, and complements our current range of reusable and returnable plastic pallecons,” Plummer says.

“We introduced the foldable plastic container 10 years ago and we are continually looking at enhancing our range of products by adopting new technology.

“The iCONIC will address a unique set of challenges that arise from moving, protecting and storing bulk dry and liquid products. It ensures safe loading and unloading and offers improved product protection with minimal handling,” he adds.

The design has achieved an improved folding ratio of 3.5:1. The collapsed container height allows for 98 containers to be stacked in a standard truck compared to 60 for earlier generation pallecons, and only 28 for fixed intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). The improvement in transport space utilisation decreases the total number of trucks required and the associated CO2 emissions. The iCONIC also reduces one-use product consumption and the resulting cost and carbon footprint. Its lightweight plastic construction provides durability and product protection and it has a large carrying capacity of 1040 litres, which holds over 25 per cent more content in the same space as four 200-litre drums.

The container uses a new liner on each trip, eliminating product contamination and avoiding the costly process of cleaning and sanitising drums and fixed IBCs after each use.

Plummer says the ability to ship and decant more product in one unit and the efficiency associated with pooling, which minimises empty container returns, ensures reduced supply chain costs. The pallecon technology also ensures better quality and reduced product residuals benefiting both the supplier and the receiving customer.

“In short, the pallecon solution improves both economic and environmental outcomes for our customers,” he concludes.
