The Wonder Recycling Rewards program, now in its third year, has established a new partnership with Victorian-based recycling organisation APR Plastics, which will use the material collected via schools in its advanced recycling technology process.

Through a new partnership with Victorian based recycling organisation APR Plastics, Wonder is contributing to developing a circular solution for its bread bags, which it believes creates a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Last year, APR Plastics began trialling running polyethylene and polypropylene through its advanced recycling technology, and transforming plastic waste into oil. Following that, food and grocery manufacturers also threw their support behind the trials.

The Wonder Recycle Rewards program encourages Aussie schools to recycle bread bags that might otherwise go to landfill in return for points for their efforts. Points can be redeemed on new sports equipment that kids can play with – championing active play for kids. While saving bread bags may seem like a small action, collectively it means a significant amount of soft plastic will avoid landfill, especially in light of the soft plastic sector's challenges highlighted by the suspension of REDcycle. 

Portfolio and marketing director, Christine Fung said, “At Wonder, we’ve pledged to create a better future for Aussie kids to grow and thrive in. That’s why we’re thrilled to be bringing back the Wonder Recycling Rewards program for another year giving Aussie kids a chance to do good for the world whilst having fun!”

Advanced pyrolysis executive at APR Plastics, Logan Thorpe commented, “It’s fantastic to be working with Wonder to continue the development of our circular economy. Today we took a positive first step in reducing soft plastic headed for landfill and we look forward to developing our partnership with them and driving further success for the Wonder Recycling Rewards program.”

Once a school has signed up, they will receive everything they need to get started – it’s that easy. The registration period for Wonder Recycling Rewards ends on 31 March, 2023.

The winners of the 62nd annual Australian Export Awards were announced in Canberra yesterday, featuring three winners from the food sector – including dessert manufacturer Frosty Boy Global, in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category.

Mondelēz International has appointed Toby Smith as President Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with the incumbent, Darren O’Brien, appointed Global Chief Corporate and Government Affairs officer.

New Zealand oat milk start-ups, Otis and All Good, have merged to form a new plant based business – Good & Humble – dedicated to championing locally grown oat milk and expanding sustainable beverage options globally.
